My First Day Of Middle School

I had my first day of middle school today. It was horrible. I got lost, I couldn't open my locker, I got trampled by the 8th graders... It was the worst day ever. I also got homework. Not that it was hard, but really? Homework the first day? At the end of the day my locker's lock got stuck and I had to get like 3 other people to try and unlock it. There are also WAY too many people! The crowds were killing me. And one of my teachers says "Ok" after EVERY sentence. "Ok. So today we'll first do a warmup. Ok. Do you have your notebooks? Ok. Please write about your summer. Ok. Use full sentences. Ok. You have 10 minutes. Ok. Write at least two paragraphs. Ok."
Maybe tomorrow will be better since I have different classes. (We do A day and B day) Scratch that. I have PE tomorrow.

  1. Awww, I'm sorry. First days are always a bit rough. Okay, how about alot rough. The nice thing is, as you progress through the year you'll learn how to cope with things, you'll adapt, and you'll also find some good things as well. I suggest writing out your woes in a journal, and then, try writing out five things that you liked about today. It's hard, but it helps.
IDK. I'm not that great at advising or comforting peeps.

  2. I'm sorry to hear that you had a less than good first day. I know that my first day of middle school was hectic too, and I can assure you, you'll get used to it and be alright.
Gosh, I got so upset over not being able to open my locker back then. It's one of those annoying things that just needs a lot of practice. Hopefully tomorrow, and the rest of the week will be better for you. :)

  3. girl, i so get you on the locker issues. i panicked for my first day too last year, it was crazy, since it was the first time my school gave us individual locks and i had NOOOO idea how to operate mine. thankfully by the end of the year i was a pro at it, even though i felt like crying at the beginning. don't worry, just look up and pretend that the crowds are your fans and you walk like you de boss :)

    1. It is certainly frustrating. Yep. I'm totally a middle school celeb.

  4. I quit using my locker. Have persistence, Tenley! You will succeed where I have failed. The lockers and the 8th graders shall not vanquish you!
I had a teacher that said "ok" after every sentence. People got annoyed with her very fast. It turns out the "ok"s were just because she was nervous. They left after the first few weeks. Everyone still hated her, but she became my favorite teacher (one of them, anyway.)

    1. I know many people do, but at my school we're not allowed to carry a bag with us.
Hopefully my teacher will stop. It gets quite annoying. She seems nice enough though.

  5. This was the story of my life. When I first started middles school the eighth graders seemed so scary and mean, but now that I am one you should just know that we aren't that bad. If they seem mean they are most likely just joking around. Also, lockers are useless. Carry around most stuff in your backpack, and get a really simple lock. You can even find trick ones that look like real locks, but you just pull on them and they open.

    1. They really don't seem mean, I just feel like they know everything and I'm just standing there like, "Waaaaait" We're not allowed to carry bags or backpacks in between classes, so I have to use my locker.

  6. I know where you're coming from! (I'm going into 8th grade and the other 8th graders still trample me xD)

Long story short, in 6th grade there was no locks on our lockers until 7th. And in 7th, my locker was broken so it wouldn't open. I got a new locker and finally learned how to use it. DON'T STRESS. As hard as it seems now, by the end of the year you'll be a pro.

IDK about you, but lunch is always good...

I wish ours had no locks.

Nope. I have 2nd lunch which means I don't eat lunch until 1:45.

  8. aw, i'm so sorry to hear that your day went poorly. <3 regarding lockers, everyone gets like that--i don't know about your school, but my middle school always gave everyone a new locker and locker combo each year, so as soon as we felt comfortable with our lockers they would change them. >.< and the eighth graders? i'm not gonna tell you they aren't all that bad, because it honestly depends on the class. for example, last year when i was in eighth grade, we all made a huge effort to be helpful and friendly to the incoming sixth graders, as we knew how it felt to be the newbies, but the class that's going into eighth grade this year (who were seventh graders last year) are all jerks, and i know for a fact they couldn't care less about anyone else. just keep your head up and walk with confidence, then you won't be easy to run over. ;) oh, and don't even get me started on getting lost...just be glad you don't go to my high school. xD i've cried over getting lost there too many times to count. if you thought you were terrified to go to middle school, then just ask me about how i'm feeling about high school. enjoy your three years of ms. :) it gets better, trust me.

    1. I'm sure it WILL get better.
The eighth graders just seem to sort of ignore us. One seventh grader helped a few people, but that's it.
It's just so confusing! Once, I went up to a group of teachers and asked where my English class was, and it was right in front of me! So embarrassing...
      Good luck in high school!

  9. I remember when I started 6th grade. I was so nervous and scared. I got my locker and I couldn't open it for forever. I felt so embarrassed and I felt so small compared to the people in 7th grade and 8th grade. But when I went forward in the year, and it got a lot better and I loved 6th grade. I could open my locker and memorize the combination easily.
Then I started feeling good and grown up along with the older grades. I hope your year gets better! Good luck from me to you!

  11. Oh Tenley! I'm so sorry your first day went so badly :(
I remember my first day of secondary school (which is the equivalent of middle school in the UK, I think) I was petrified. There were so many people, and because we had a one-way system down most corridors, you had to walk all the way around the school to get to a classroom that was right next to you, so if you got lost you were done for.
A thing my friends did for the first couple of weeks was take a picture of their timetables and a map of the school, and set it as their phone background, so they only had to whip out their phone to work out where they had to go. It saved them having to stop and get their notebooks out and get pushed around by the Year Nines, and stopped them getting lost. It's a good idea if you are allowed to have your phones in school.
As for the lockers, can't you ask to be switched to a locker that's in a quieter part of the school? I don't know how it works, but it'd give you more space to get your books out and stuff if there wasn't a load of students pushing and shoving past you.
I agree with Maddie about the eight-graders. The majority of them are really snotty and couldn't care less about the younger kids (stay out of their way) but you do get some that will be really nice that will help you.
Good luck, I promise you it will get easier as the term goes on :)

    1. It was pretty miserable.
That would help but if we get caught using our phones in the hall we get our phone held for a month.
Yeah. The 8th graders at my school just ignore us and plow through us. I don't think they remember how confusing it is at first!!! Some of the seventh graders are pretty nice, but the eighth graders are not. Thanks for the support.

  12. Aw! I'm so sorry your day was so bad! I was hoping that it wasn't going to be as and as you thought! It will probably get better as you get used to everything! Stay strong!;)

  13. Oh no, Tenley! I'm very, really sorry that your day didn't go well. I remember the first time I did pass testing...I was so scared! My hands were shaking and sweaty and I was shivering. I can't imagine what your going through! So sorry that the eighth graders weren't nice...hopefully you'll be able to befriend some of them. I think sometimes the older ones are just going through hard times and want to take out their anger on everyone else. Stay strong, girl! You can do it! Defeat 2015-16 school year! (Sorry, I turn everything into a smile! Just spreadin' my joy...LOL)
